Here’s Looking At You: From Phone to Wall

By Dr. Ralph Basui Watkins, The Scholar with a Camera

I have the profound privilege of co-creating images with people who trust me to be their image maker. And every single time—it never gets old.

In one fleeting second, something happens that did not exist before. A look. A posture. A spark of joy. A quiet confidence. And then—click—it is captured. What we created together now lives beyond that moment. It becomes history. It becomes legacy.

But here’s the question I often wrestle with:

Where do those images live after we create them?

For most people, they live on a phone.

Seen briefly. Shared quickly. Then… buried.

The Size of the Experience

The average iPhone screen today is about 6.1 inches diagonally. That means the image we created—your beauty, your presence, your story—is often experienced on something you can hold in the palm of your hand.

Small. Temporary. Easy to forget.

And let’s be honest—how often do you go back and truly sit with your images on your phone?

Not scroll.
Not swipe.
But really see yourself?

Loving Yourself Requires Seeing Yourself

One of the greatest commandments is to love—God, your neighbor, and yourself.

But loving yourself requires something powerful:

You must see yourself.

Not casually.
Not accidentally.
But intentionally.

To behold your beauty.
To recognize your presence.
To honor who you are—created in the image of God.

That kind of seeing doesn’t happen in passing.

It happens in presence.

Digital is Convenient. Print is Transformational.

Digital images are important—I provide them because they serve a purpose. They allow you to share, connect, and celebrate in the moment.

But let’s tell the truth:

Digital is temporary in experience, even if it’s permanent in storage.

It lives behind glass.
It competes with texts, emails, and notifications.
It gets lost in the scroll.

But when you print an image…

Everything changes.

When Your Image Becomes Art

When you invest in printed artwork:

  • Your image moves from your pocket to your space
  • It becomes part of your daily life
  • It speaks to you without needing to be opened

A framed portrait on your wall says:
“I matter.”

A portrait on your desk says:
“I see myself.”

An album on your table says:
“My story deserves to be remembered.”

This is why we don’t stop at digital files in our process—we guide you into creating something lasting, something meaningful, something that honors you.

Wall Art, Table Art, and Albums: Acts of Self-Love

Let me say this clearly:

Printing your images is not an extra. It is essential.

  • Wall Art transforms your home into a gallery of your life and legacy
  • Table Art (frames, folio boxes) keeps your story present in your everyday spaces
  • Albums become heirlooms—something your family will hold long after the moment has passed

These are not just products.

They are practices of self-love, self-recognition, and self-celebration.

Don’t Minimize the Investment You Made in Yourself

When you invest in a professional portrait session, you are not just paying for images.

You are investing in:

  • Your story
  • Your presence
  • Your legacy

To stop at digital files is to undervalue that investment.

But when you print—when you live with your images—you elevate that investment into something transformational.

You Deserve to Be Seen—Fully

You deserve more than a 6.1-inch experience of yourself.

You deserve to walk into your home and see your greatness on the wall.
You deserve to pause at your desk and remember who you are.
You deserve to hold your story in your hands and pass it on.

So I’ll say it simply:

Print your images.
Honor yourself.
Love yourself enough to see yourself—every single day.
